Arlington, VA – August 31, 2011 – Program members of Fellowship Health Resources, Inc. (FHR) in Virginia agree that the summer of 2011 will be one to remember.
In the early summer months, FHR members enjoyed going a baseball game between the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Half a dozen consumers attended the game to cheer on the players in the field with tickets that were donated by the Washington Nationals. In August, the Prince William County Fair also donated tickets to FHR. The residents that attended enjoyed a fun day of amusement park rides, carnival games, and funnel cake.
Back at the Intensive Community Residential Treatment (ICRT) Programs, consumers have been participating in weekly art sessions. The artists are very proud of their paintings and drawings that now decorate their program house. This opportunity provided residents with a sense of belonging knowing that it is their artwork on display at the home.
On August 23, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit central Virginia and was felt along the east coast, prompting residents from North Carolina to New York to evacuate. A week later, Hurricane Irene hit the east coast, affecting areas everywhere. FHR Virginia Regional Director Larry Ferguson says, “In typical FHR Virginia Regional Office fashion, staff and consumers rose to the challenge of the two unexpected natural disasters. We were fortunate that no physical harm came to the property or persons of our staff and consumers. We followed the safety protocols closely and got through both events with a plethora of ‘where were you’ stories.”
Despite inclimate weather in Virginia, FHR consumers look forward to the Labor Day picnic, a Delaware beach trip, and more fun activities in the upcoming autumn months.
