FHR RI Announces Participation in 2011 Shape Up RI Program
Earlier this month, Fellowship Health Resources announced its continued participation in Rhode Island’s annual “get fit” program. In 2010, FHR administration and program staff joined in the fun, logging in pedometer steps, tracking weight loss, adding more fruits and vegetables to their diets, and participating in weekly goals designed by Shape Up RI.
Shape Up RI is a statewide exercise and weight loss challenge founded by Brown Medical School student Rajiv Kumar on the belief that the solution to healthy living lies in the power of teamwork and peer support. This health campaign encourages Rhode Islanders to pursue healthy lifestyles through increased physical activity and better nutrition. Participants compete on teams and track their weight, exercise hours, fruit and vegetable intake, and/or pedometer steps over a twelve-week period in our Spring challenge or an eight-week period in Summer Shape Up RI. Over the past five years, more than 48,500 Rhode Islanders have participated in this successful program, losing thousands of pounds, walking millions of miles, and proving that teamwork is a powerful prescription for taking control of our health. The kick-off for this 12-week program is Saturday, February 5, 2011. The challenge itself begins on the following Monday, February 7. This year, FHR staff is encouraging consumers to get in on the action, with a goal to tie health and wellness goals to treatments plans. FHR is generously covering registration fees for its employees and clients.
