FHR celebrates Mental Illness Awareness Week

FHR PENNSYLVANIA PARTICIPATES IN CHESTER COUNTY'S AWARENESS WEEK ACTIVITIES

Phoenixville, PA – October 5, 2011 In coordination with Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), Fellowship Health Resources, Inc. (FHR) of Pennsylvania is participating in Chester County’s educational campaign.

Eighteen libraries across the county will host public presentations for the campaign. FHR Communication Liaison Mariann Horan will present at Chester Springs Library and inform the public about local mental illness resources.

“The volunteers at every library were provided posters that address general mental health statistics and concerns,” Horan says. “We are there to answer questions and to point community members in the direction of helpful resources.”

For example, the MIAW poster provided by Chester County states that as a national public health concern, suicide prevention programs and other resources are easily available in the community.

“Our goal is to have a positive impact, and to provide the best possible representation of local resources for our mental health community,” Horan says.

MIAW creates the opportunity for all National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) statewide organizations and advocates to join together to promote education, awareness, and recovery.

The U.S. Congress established the first full week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in 1990.   For more information about MIAW, visit www.nami.org
