Taunton, MA – January 23, 2011 – Fairwinds Clubhouse and Plymouth Bay House of Fellowship Health Resources, Inc. (FHR) joined other programs across Southeastern Massachusetts to coordinate a Clubhouse Symposium at the Taunton State Hospital on Friday, January 20.
FHR President/CEO Joe Dziobek and other FHR members from Falmouth and Plymouth within the Cape Cod Region spoke and participated at the event.
"Programs in Southeastern Massachusetts put this Symposium together to share information about the components of the clubhouse recovery model, partnerships, and evidence-based rehabilitation services that we offer,” said Plymouth Bay House Director Mike Cote. “Members from all different organizations presented and shared how their clubhouses have provided a sense of community to aide in their personal journey to recovery.”
Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition Executive Director Reva Stein said that the 32 clubhouses in Massachusetts serve over 8,300 members each year. At FHR, this type of model offers individuals with psychiatric disabilities the opportunity for friendship, support, vocational services, transitional and independent employment, and educational services in a secure, rehabilitative environment. Members and staff at both Fairwinds Clubhouse, of Falmouth, and Plymouth Bay House, of Plymouth, are engaged in all aspects of the program operations and share responsibility for their ultimate success within the community.
Senator Richard J. Ross showed his support of the Clubhouse Model by speaking at the Symposium. “Clubhouses provide unique potential and encourage members to be self-supporting,” Senator Ross said. “I’m a strong advocate in the community for folks who don’t always have a voice for themselves.”
Symposium leaders were very pleased with the turnout at this event. “It’s an honor to be a part of this event and I’m very pleased to see so many familiar faces from Fairwinds Clubhouse and Plymouth Bay House here today,” said FHR President/CEO Joe Dziobek.
