A Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT), located in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the Southeast Mobile Treatment (SEMT) Program began serving clients with serious and persistent mental illness in the Greater New Bedford and Fall River communities in May, 2003.

Using a multi-disciplinary team approach, SEMT staff members provide individuals with comprehensive, community-based mental health treatment, rehabilitation, and support. The team acts as the clients’ primary service provider and is responsible for helping them to meet the needs and challenges of community living.

Staff members provide the majority of treatment and rehabilitation to each client within their home and community environment. This mobile approach facilitates the provision of psychosocial services to the client and minimizes client dropout.

As a PACT model program, SEMT provides highly individualized services to its clients. The team consciously adapts the treatment environment to meet individual client needs. Clients are given support and encouragement, while being taught effective strategies as they work to reach their goals. Services are delivered to clients in a coordinated and continuous manner. This positively impacts the course of a mental illness, resulting in less frequent episodes of illness and improved functioning overall.

SEMT is fortunate to have a strong treatment team, consisting of a psychiatrist, lead clinician, three registered nurses, two employment specialists, an addictions specialist, housing specialist, peer recovery specialist, and program assistant, working with me to ensure that our clients receive the best possible care. In addition, there are other case managers on the team who do not have a specific specialty but are, nonetheless, valuable and hardworking staff members.

SEMT office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week; however, staff is available to consumers and their families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Please feel free to contact the New Bedford SEMT at 508-997-6300 with any questions regarding the Southeast Mobile Treatment Program.
