Mendon, MA - September 19, 2011 - To celebrate one of the last few days of summer, members from Fellowship Health Resources, Inc. (FHR) in the Fall River Network, took a day trip to the Southwick Zoo. Rehabilitation and Recovery group members and staff spent the afternoon learning and enjoying different animals in the 200-acre zoo.
Kim B., a person served in Fall River, entered the park with much anticipation. “I cannot wait to see the animals,” Kim said. “They’re so cute!”
FHR members enjoyed the opportunity to touch different animals at the barnyard petting zoo. “I loved petting the goats,” said Rita C. “I fell in love with the pregnant goat; she was beautiful.”
After petting animals in the barn, consumers had the opportunity to feed deer in the forest. Staff members said that the deer happily approached the quiet FHR group. The deer took “quick bites” of dry corn from most of the FHR members’ hands.
One of the most memorable moments of the day was the SkyFari Sky Ride. FHR members experienced the zoo “at new heights” and saw flamingos, giraffes, white tigers, warthogs, and ostriches below.

Lastly, Rehabilitation and Recovery group facilitator, Dina Santos, had the opportunity to ride Cotton the camel. Everyone took a picture with Cotton before heading out through the Purple Peacock gift shop. Overall, it was a wonderful day for Fall River members at the zoo.
