FALL RIVER, MA – June 15, 2011 – Peer Support Group participants at Fellowship Health Resources, Inc. (FHR) took advantage of the warm weather and held their weekly meetings at Colt State Park this past week.

Peer Support Group Specialist Lisa Boulanger invited her group, as well as the members of the Rehabilitation and Recovery (R&R) Program, to discuss and interact with one another in the park. Boulanger believes that conducting activities in different environments makes it easier for consumers to share their stories.

“It was great having a Peer Support meeting outdoors and in the community for a change,” she says. “It was powerful for me and my peers to discuss our mental health recovery within earshot of other groups in the park. Not only were we supporting each other, but we were educating and raising awareness in the process as well.”

The groups took a break for the rest of the day to enjoy the sunshine and to walk around Colt State Park, all while offering encouragement to one another.
