A Day on the Farm

 hayride group

The Rehabilitation & Recovery Group Program recently visited Red Apple Farm in scenic Phillipston, Massachusetts. The group enjoyed beautiful scenic views and gorgeous foliage during their two-hour trip to the farm. Once there, consumers and staff enjoyed a hayride to the pumpkin patch, where they were able to pick a pumpkin of their choice. Another highlight was visiting the potato field and watching the driver demonstrate how the grounds are raked. Once he was finished, each group member was invited to pick a bag full of fresh potatoes out of the dirt. Afterwards, in the pavilion, a picnic lunch was enjoyed as chickens freely roamed the area. Along with lunch, there were samples of pasteurized apple cider and cider donuts to enjoy. The group then enjoyed a walk through the apple orchard, where everyone was able to fill a bag of fresh apples right from the trees. The farm store was another hit with our consumers. They were able to shop for fresh fruit, pastry, jellies and preservatives, or just enjoy a hot cup of coffee. Feeding the farm’s animals, which ate right out of their hands, was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
