From the desk of Gary Hudson: “I have been living from Monday to Wednesday morning at the Bob Walker House, in Marstons Mills, since February 22 as the Artist in Residence/Peer Mentor for Fellowship Health Resources. My mission was to create an art program, named Studio 35, for persons served on Cape Cod. Art sessions were to be held at Dorothy Bearse Apartments (DBA) on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. -noon and 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.

I began sessions in March with art materials I found on-site. Colored pencils and drawing paper began the effort and persons served drew and socialized in the kitchen at DBA. Before long, ordered supplies arrived and each participant received an artist journal/sketchbook, a set of 24 colored pencils, a sharpener and an eraser, along with pastels and black and white paper.

We began to explore images, which are fundamental in art therapy. Students enjoyed drawing mandelas and other abstract forms. They reported that they found the process relaxing and fun. Those who already had art skills were happy to receive art materials to further their efforts and artistic abilities.

Once the Studio 35 t-shirt design was created, one hundred of them were produced. Each art session participant received a free t-shirt. You may also see them on staff members here and there.

Along with drawings, we have worked with acrylic paints. We will be expanding, as we go along, into other areas such as collage, sculpture, and needlepoint.

A section of the Bob Walker House is being made into an actual art studio, where in the not too distant future I will be able to work with three to four serious artists at a time.

We may even expand into gallery tours. I have made contact with PeaceLove Studios in Pawtucket, RI.  It is the first real gallery venue for our persons served to show their work.”
