From Joe Dziobek, CEO:  "It is with great pride and genuine excitement that I announce to you the publication of our organization's  PRISMmodel for the Effective Treatment of Serious and Persistent Mental Illness.  Module I - Engagement, Module II - Assessment, and Module III - Treatment Planning, articulate Fellowship Health Resources' clinical approach in an engaging and "reader friendly" manner.  Throughout all three Modules, the authors clearly define the primary strengths-based and person-centered treatment philosophies of the  PRISMmodel, while remaining resolute in the ultimate effectiveness of clinical treatment that is mission-driven, respectful, and individualized.

The  PRISMmodel for the Effective Treatment of Serious and Persistent Mental Illness defines us as an organization.  It articulates our clinical approach to the care and treatment of individuals recovering from mental illness, addictions, and other life challenges, and is the single, unifying component of who we are and what we do.  As such, the  PRISMmodel will be the focus of an agency-wide training effort beginning in January 2010 through the Taton Learning Institute (TLI).  It is our intent that all employees become proficient in the  PRISMmodel to ensure that our organization's mission, vision, and guiding beliefs come to life each day within our clinical practice."

By means of introduction, Module I - Engagement articulates the relationship-building techniques essential for establishing a successful therapeutic rapport with the consumer.  The building of this trusting relationship is the foundation of an effective recovery model.

Engagement highlights:

  • The role of an effective helper.
  • The importance of a strengths-based and person-centered referral and orientation process.
  • Communication techniques to help ensure a positive first contact and first face-to-face meeting with the consumer.
  • The importance of staff support to the successful integration of the consumer into the treatment team.
