Aiming to educate the public about substance abuse treatment and recovery resources, more than 50 organizations from across Rhode Island will set up information at the September 11, 2010, RI Rally for Recovery, at Roger Williams Memorial National Park, North Main Street, Providence.

Sponsored by the RI Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, and the Rhode Island Recovery Month Coalition, the RI Rally for Recovery is Rhode Island’s celebration of the 21st annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.

The rally serves as an opportunity to gather diverse segments of the recovery community - individuals in recovery from alcohol and drug addictions, the mental health and developmental disabilities communities, behavioral health treatment providers, family members, friends and advocates of recovery, and our partners in government - to celebrate the shared commitment to the recovery movement.

The program includes a great line-up of speakers, including Gil Kerlikowske, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, RI Governor Donald Carcieri, Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts, Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, and Cranston Mayor Alan Fung.

The Rally for Recovery is a FREE, family-friendly festival with many activities, music, food, and the opportunity for education and awareness about drug and alcohol addiction, mental illness, developmental disabilities, and the journey of recovery.
