Recovery Includes Employment

Fellowship Health Resources’ Delaware region is fortunate to have, as part of their recovery team, two devoted employment specialists. These specialists work in conjunction with our case managers and therapists, providing the support necessary to our Community Continuum of Care Program (CCCP) consumers who are interested in incorporating employment into their recovery plan.
In addition to meeting with individuals to determine what type of job interests them, their skill set, and their ability and willingness to travel, Delaware’s employment specialists visit businesses within our community in efforts to build partnerships. Resume writing, the interview process, and continued assistance after hire, are all important areas where consumers receive support.
The interview process is one area that many consumers find stressful, as most have been out of the job market for a considerable time. The employment specialist takes the time to discuss the importance of a good appearance, review possible interview questions, and aids the consumer in deciding if disclosing their mental health history is beneficial or necessary.
Once a job opening is located, specialists assist consumers through the application process and, upon hire, continue to provide support to the consumer, if desired. Employment specialists can be of assistance with possible job conflicts, increased stress and anxiety due to employment, and transportation issues, among other areas.
CCCP member, Terry S., is thankful for his employment specialist, Fran Rachels. “Fran has found job leads for me, and has helped me submit applications. She is always there for me, encouraging me through each step. She is very friendly and supportive,” Terry explained. “We consider each other partners in my search for employment.” At Fellowship, employment specialists are an additional layer of support we offer our consumer as they work towards recovery.
