Community Clubhouses

Community Clubhouses provide a daily activity environment that utilizes peer support to help members develop and maintain a personal support system. This rehabilitative environment provides for access to vocational and social opportunities as well as promoting independent living experiences. The idea of membership to a club conveys respect for the self-determination and autonomy of members and their right to make decisions about their lives.

GOALS FOR MEMBERS:
Members should regain the skills and confidence necessary to participate as full citizens in their community.

ELIGIBILITY for MEMBERSHIP:
Voluntary and without time limits.  Open to anyone with a history of mental illness.

ACCESS:
All members have equal access to every Clubhouse opportunity with no differentiation based upon diagnosis or level of functioning

RELATIONSHIPS:
Membership implies ownership and responsibility. The conscious design of the Clubhouses is that the activities and functions of the house are done jointly by members and staff. Members and staff work together, side-by-side, as colleagues.

CLUBHOUSE ACTIVITIES and SERVICES:
Through Clubhouse activities and functions, members receive the message that they are capable and valuable individuals. Clubhouses provide the following services:

  • Pre-vocational Work Units
  • Social/Recreational Activities
  • Independent Living Assistance
  • Transportation Services
  • Support and Advocacy
  • Educational Services

EMPLOYMENT:
The Clubhouse enables its members to become re-employed through Transitional Employment and Independent Employment
Transitional Employment - Members are linked with an independent business in the community and a Clubhouse staff sponsor who works for the member, if necessary
Independent Employment - Members are employed by a business in the community where they are solely responsible for that position with minimal Clubhouse support

ADVOCACY:

Membership in the Clubhouse also provides for client support and advocacy to assist clients in obtaining educational opportunities, medical assistance, and transportation
