ACCESS - VIRGINIA

Arlington Community Crisis and Emergency Stabilization Services (ACCESS) opened its doors to the community on August 18, 2003. ACCESS is a 4-bed residential respite Program for seriously mentally ill adults and dually diagnosed MR clients who are experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis that could jeopardize their current living situation. The goal of the ACCESS Program is to assist clients in avoiding hospitalization or rehospitalization. By stabilizing the client’s psychiatric crisis, and working to mobilize the community support system, ACCESS provides clients with a stable environment offering a high level of safety and support.
Day and evening staff (24-hour awake) are Mental Health Counselors that have earned Master’s Degrees in either Psychology or Social Work. They form a culturally diverse team of trained mental health professionals who have experience working with the seriously mentally ill, and are complemented by a treating psychiatrist, CSB Case Managers, and other involved persons.
As stabilization progresses, clients will have the opportunity, while at ACCESS, to transition back to work, utilize the Clarendon House Clubhouse program of Arlington, or engage in their usual day activity. Family members are encouraged to participate in an individual’s treatment through involvement with service planning and regular contact with ACCESS staff.
ACCESS is built upon the philosophy that all consumers have the capacity to change and grow. The Program is designed to instill hope in clients, and a sense of family, with the ultimate goal of attaining the highest level of stability possible. Services are individualized and provide each client with a plan of treatment that is based upon their unique needs and goals.
