Staff and clients of Fellowship Health Resources’ (FHR) North Carolina Region were honored this summer to host Dr. Terry Cline, Administrator of SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), at FHR’s Blue Ridge Road site.
SAMHSA, an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, was created to develop the size and scope of the nation’s substance abuse prevention, addictions treatment, and mental health service delivery systems. As SAMHSA’s Administrator, Dr. Cline leads the $3.3 billion dollar agency it its vision of “A Life in the Community for Everyone.”
A staunch advocate for advancement in the study and treatment of mental illness and substance abuse, Dr. Cline earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Oklahoma, followed by a master’s degree and a doctorate in clinical psychology from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Cline’s impressive credentials also include his tenure as Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and his appointments as Secretary of Health, and Commissioner of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, for the State of Oklahoma.
Escorting Dr. Cline on his tour of FHR’s Blue Ridge Road Programs was Ramon Rojano, Director of Wake County Human Services, Crystal Farrow, Wake County Local Management Entity (LME) Director, and Carlyle Johnson, of LME’s Adult Provider and Community Development Team.
During his visit, Dr. Cline met with Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program consumers to discuss their individual experiences with day treatment. Also on hand was Martha MacDonald, FHR’s Director of Substance Abuse Services for the North Carolina Region, who shared with Dr. Cline insight into FHR’s role with Wake County’s Drug Court services. Prior to his departure, Dr. Cline also toured the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) area, and met with ACTT staff.
Speaking of Dr. Cline’s visit, Fellowship Health Resources’ North Carolina Regional Director Diana Wydo stated, “We were privileged to host such an esteemed visitor. Dr. Cline left with handfuls of information on our organization, along with an open invitation to visit any of our Regional sites on future return trips.” ~
